Gabon—Earth’s Last Eden, will mark the seventeenth season of Survivor and is set to air in September 2008 on CBS. The Survivor contestants consist of a group of strangers dropped off at a remote location with a sack of rice and one luxury item. The contestants must initially find ways to satisfy their basic human needs such as food, shelter and water. They are given numerous mental and physical challenges that they must win to gain immunity from being voted off or to earn rewards and luxuries. For some, the rewards prove better than immunity, ranging from delicious meals to horseback riding through active volcanoes. The contestants are slowly voted off, but not before alliances are formed and strategies for winning have been well thought out. The competitive reality TV show gives one person the opportunity to win one million dollars and the title of Sole Survivor.
